While the colors are muted (the second image is from the video), this Pearl screen color display with a color filter layer overlaid could still work -- for books with color illustrations, photos, graphs -- on a lightweight e-reader used outside in the sun, a situation where it's difficult to see an image at all on a color LCD display. But, would a color device without the visual punch of current LCD color be feasible cost-wise? Wording in the article suggests it's still slow, as "faster versions that can support more fluid transitions are in the pipeline."
